Nightlife
Alvinos
Fancy a fun night out with friends or colleagues? Don’t look further.
This cosy bar gathers the best of cocktails, spread on two floors and four different atmospheres that will allow the intimate date to the group of friends to enjoy a memorable night.
Affordable cocktails and a terrace opened during the summer, the bar is a must for those in search of an unusual and retro venue. Beware of the some of the cocktails though, they can be quite tricky! The Amaretto Cooler is a good example: a hint of passion fruit and lime that seems harmless at first until you start dipping your lips to taste the peach liqueur and zubrowka vodka... Prices: £6.25 per cocktail
Address: 88 Pilgrim Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 6SG
Phone: 0191 261 5656
Opening times: 10.00am-12.00am Mon to Thur and 10.00am- 1.00am Fri and Sat

Bar Loco
Looking for a cozy place to chill out? Let’s grab a drink in Bar Loco! This is the place to unwind you after working for a whole day. Every other while, there will be live music performance in the bar. Furnished with soft sofas, lovely fireplaces as well as great music, Bar Loco will make you feel exactly like staying at home. Homey, is definitely the best word to describe the place.
Summer time is probably one of the best seasons to enjoy the bar as you can spend your afternoon on holding a pint of fresh beer and taking a sunbath on the wooden benches outside of the bar. Who said we had to go to the beach to enjoy summer?
Address: 22 Leazes Park Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4PG
Opening times: Sunday to Friday: 3pm to 1am, Sat: 12pm to 1am

Crows Nest
Would you like to pop in for a quick drink on the way home or killing leisure time with friends or watching unmissable football matches with lots of fans? Whatever you prefer to do in a cheerful pub, Crown Nest, which is located in the city center and near to Newcastle University, makes itself the perfect place to enjoy pub meals with a mix of various drinks, live music and live sport action.
Since its 2013 refurbishment, Crown Nest is featured by its renovated atmosphere and updated menu. I strongly recommend the dish called the Seafood Linguini with crab and urchin and small items they have added - mushrooms on toast and cod goujons. One of the most attractive selling point is the 10% discount, which is available to students and NHS staff. This typical British style pub will make you feel genuinely welcome.

Food service: Mon - Sat: 11:00am - 11:00pm, Sun: 12:00pm - 10:30pm

House of Smith: Florita
Puzzled about those groups of people screaming and walking down the city centre streets around midnight, don’t worry, this is Newcastle! The famous nightlife is part of the Geordie land. House of Smith: Florita is one of the best nightclubs you do not want to miss.
The split-level club is rather stylish, and has spacey places with plenty sofas and booths. The DJ has a good taste in choosing music. Even the poor dancers will reveal themselves experts in the glorious night out. And if you are lucky, House of Smith sometimes joins two other nightclubs into one, which means you will pay to access one club but will end up having access to three of them! Join the party after the nightfall!

Mahjong Aspers Casino
If you are not a party animal and happen not to like releasing pressure in KTV, Mahjong is a good choice to kill time. But the premise is that your curiosity will be put to the test of spending money on gambling, which is on the second floor. Since the World Cup is already over, it shouldn’t be very difficult. So go to the Gates head, Newcastle famous entrainment glass building. Bring your ID and at least three friends for a free guaranteed night out. Free of charge, free Mahjong, and free drinks. Not bad, hah?

Pleased to Meet You
Nicknamed ‘The Gin Bar’, the rustic Pleased To Meet You is found on a cobble-stoned street just a stone’s throw away from the Theatre Royal and serves all of Newcastle’s Gin lovers. The upmarket bar does bend the wallet slightly, but this niche bar allows you to handcraft your own gin concoction. First the gin, then onto the tonic, which is finished off by a garnishing of your choice, which includes rose petals, cucumber and dark chocolate. For anyone who wants to feel a bit classy and put on their new frock, it’s a charming bar which offers both gin and other alcoholic beverages, including delicious cocktails. Price: £5 for a single gin & mixer

Quilliam Brothers
Opened in 2013, Quilliam Brothers has rapidly become of the most popular and trendy places in town among students and locals. With over 60 different kinds of tea and a dozen types of cakes, it is the place to go if you are looking for a quiet place to study or a nice cup of tea with a friend.
The best thing about this tea house is that it is inside the university campus. This means that you won't have to go far just to grab cup of tea in your thirty minute break. Also, the tea house has a small space in the ground floor which is brilliant for social activities and has a very comfortable sitting area as well as a small screen which can be used for group meetings in a very warm atmosphere.
Address: Barras Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 7RG
Opening times: 8:00 am – 1:00 am
