Ouseburn Valley
Bored with the urban city life? Then go and find the hidden Ouseburn Valley! It is a cultural and social oasis near to the town centre of Newcastle. There was a cluster of heavy industries until the mid-twentieth century. Eventually, artists had found their place in these many industrial heritages. Ouseborn Valley is home to the Biscuit Factory, the Mushroom Works, 36LimeStreet and many cultural hubs.
Biscuit Factory is not a factory but a contemporary art gallery, where you can find creative art, sculpture, painting, and jewellery. Personally, I would recommend the 36LimeStreet, where is studios for artists, painters, craftsmen. If you go there in their public open times, you are able to visit almost every studio of artists in the building.
I visited an artist, Jim Edward last time, who is known for painting the contemporary bridges and buildings in the North East. From original stretch books, painting tools to the finished paintings, you could literally see how those mimic paintings are painted. It was definitely an unusual experience.
If you like art, Ouseborn Valley should be on your visit list! Find more about their open studios check website: http://36limestreet.co.uk

The Quayside
The Quayside perfectly categorises Newcastle as a cultural beauty. Surrounded by the Baltic Gallery, the Quayside cafes, the Tyneside Bridge and The Sage, the Quayside is beautiful for a stroll or a row on the River Tyne. A great setting to set up one’s camera and snap some glorious shots. The Quayside dedicates every Sunday morning to the local market sellers, where some beautifully crafted trinkets can be discovered, from handmade jewellery and quaint artwork, to fresh sugary churros and household bargains.
The market itself has an intoxicating vibe, both friendly and fun; demonstrating what the Geordies are all about and why people love to go there. Plus, once you’ve finished shopping your socks off, you can pop into the local café to have a full English breakfast.

Star and Shadow Cinema
There are two famous cinemas in Newcastle, ‘Empire’ and ‘Tyne mouth’, but if you want to watch or listen to something different, Star and Shadow cinema is at the center of the experimental film, art and music communities in Newcastle. It's a really creative space. The cinema programmes films, gigs, live art and exhibitions. For all films, the standard ticket price is £5, or £3.50. However, if you cannot pay for the ticket, you still have the opportunity to watch them. The cinema also organises different gigs, but there is no standard price for them.
New students might also be interested in English conversation group meetings, which run every Tuesday from 4 to 7pm. It is the perfect opportunity if you are looking to improve your English speaking skills with a little help of native English speakers.
